Scott H. Hoshida

Scott H. Hoshida is a fourth-generation writer based in Oakland and professor of English at Berkeley City College. His non-fiction writing has appeared in the Nichi Bei News, Berkeleyside, KQED Perspectives, and Rad Families: A Celebration, and his fiction in Yemassee, Flock, and The Broadkill Review. His work has been supported by Tin House Summer Workshop, VONA, Lit Camp, and Community of Writers, and much of his nearly finished book, The Hearings, was  written during residencies at Blue Mountain Center, Wellstone in the Redwoods, and Mesa Refuge where he now serves as a board member. 

In addition to teaching composition and creative writing, he co-designed and launched BCC’s Teaching and Learning Center, worked with the CA Learning Lab’s team to design a state-wide, intersegmental professional learning collaboration, and is currently a Climate Fellow for the CA Community College State Chancellor’s Office.
